Nestled in the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Highland Craftsmen Inc® was founded in 1990 with the mission to decrease the impact of construction and harmonize with nature. As the original poplar bark shingle manufacturer, the founders of HC solidified their dream by building a reputation for quality, style and attention to detail.

What began as small company in an isolated region, HC has now impacted architecture, forestry, business modeling, community structure and sustainability constructs. Today Highland Craftsmen Inc designs, manufactures and sells natural, Bark House brand architectural elements for the whole home and has received national acclaim. HC is a certified and audited B Corp and is Chain of Custody Certified through FSC, SFI and PEFC. HC is an award winning company with many achievements including North Carolina Green Innovation, Advantage Innovation, Business of the Year and Cultural Contribution Awards. This is an OSHA SHARP designated company.

With the capacity to utilize what others have overlooked, company founders Marty and Chris McCurry have established themselves as an accomplished team. Married for 23 years, this couple has a forward-thinking mentality, yet relies on traditions of the past to create natural product lines, and a dynamic, community oriented company.

The corporate structure at HC results in a family like atmosphere comprised of experienced core employees who are adept at working together to provide our clients with the highest levels of quality and service. Another important part of the team includes our contract staff and vendors. Before becoming part of the HC team, each member is educated on the Global Sullivan Principles and sustainability constructs applicable to their area of work. The high level of professionalism we demand from and deliver to our affiliates combined with the flexibility of ways to engage with HC, results in a healthy work environment. Many of our vendors and contract employees would never fit a 9-5 mold. We meet them where their needs are (a flexible lifestyle) and provide out-of-the-box job opportunities.

Finally but not least HC is engaged with the community. HC chose to locate in a tier one county and are making a difference. 90% of our materials are sourced with-in 100 miles, 10% within 500 miles. The owners and employees lead and volunteer at community activities and events.
